Scotland’s biggest college set for new campus

Paul Little, Principal, City of Glasgow College talks about fresh investment in Scotland’s largest college.

“When City of Glasgow College officially opened its doors for the first time, we were already pioneers in education. Scotland’s largest college came into existence following the merger of Glasgow’s Nautical, Central and Metropolitan colleges.

Catering for around 40,000 students and 1,200 members of staff there were high expectations resting on our shoulders, now, 14 months later, I believe we’ve delivered on our mission to become a powerhouse for skills development and learning right here in Glasgow.

The announcement of a £200 million campus cements that commitment, it is a significant building project which will transform Glasgow’s city centre – a major boost to the city, reflecting the ambition and confidence that is thriving within City of Glasgow College.

The college is young but it’s already developing a global reputation in key areas.

We want to improve life chances for our students and are delivering on this through stronger working relationships with business leaders and courses more tailored to the demands of modern Scotland.

The new campus will be the final piece in that puzzle. We’re already in the process of redefining college education and the campus is part of that. In  2013 the three-year construction begins. The new buildings will be focused on the future – the future of college education, the future of Glasgow and the future of Scotland. When students arrive at the new facilities they’ll see first-hand the scale and clout of our ambition.”
